Per Unit 42, Medusa appeared as a ransomware-as-a-service (RaaS) operation in late 2022 and rose to prominence in early 2023, mainly going after Windows environments. It should not be mistaken for the similarly named MedusaLocker RaaS, which has been around since 2019.
