"Black Basta" is a ransomware strain first identified in April 2022, with evidence of development going back to at least early February 2022. Given how rapidly it accumulated victims and the manner in which its operators conduct negotiations, it is widely believed to be not a brand-new operation but a rebrand of an established, top-tier ransomware crew that brought its affiliates along.
