Background

ESET Research describes PromptLock as the first known ransomware powered by AI. It relies on Lua scripts produced from hard-coded prompts to walk the local filesystem, examine candidate files, exfiltrate chosen data, and carry out encryption. Because the generated Lua is cross-platform, it runs on Windows, Linux, and macOS alike. To encrypt files, PromptLock applies the SPECK 128-bit algorithm.
