Monokle is an advanced piece of mobile surveillanceware offering remote access trojan (RAT) capabilities, refined data exfiltration methods, and the option to add an attacker-chosen certificate to a device's trusted store, opening the door to man-in-the-middle (MITM) attacks. Lookout researchers attribute its development to the Special Technology Center (STC), a Russian defense contractor that the U.S. Government sanctioned over alleged meddling in the 2016 US presidential elections.
