Malware

Lorenz

Tesorion describes Lorenz as a ransomware with design and implementation flaws, leading to impossible decryption with tools provided by the attackers.

Lorenz is a Windows malware family.

Background

According to Tesorion, Lorenz is ransomware whose design and implementation defects make it impossible to recover files using the tools its operators hand out. A free decryptor covering the 2021 builds was released through the NoMoreRansom initiative. When a fresh variant surfaced in March 2022, another free decryptor was produced for it as well, since the attackers themselves cannot supply working decryption tools for the affected files.
