The latest in this long line of Mirai scourges is a new variant named Echobot.
Echobot is a Linux botnet.
Background
Echobot is the most recent addition to the long lineage of Mirai-derived threats. It emerged in mid-May and was first documented by Palo Alto Networks in an early-June report, then again in a mid-June writeup by researchers at Akamai.
At the time Palo Alto Networks first observed it in early June, Echobot wielded exploits for 18 vulnerabilities; a week later, the Akamai report put that count at 26.
