Malware
Coinminer
Coinminer is an unwanted malicious software which uses the victim's computational power (CPU and RAM mostly) to mine for coins (for example Monero or Zcash).
Coinminer is a Windows malware family.
Background
Coinminer is unwanted malware that hijacks a victim's computing resources, chiefly CPU and RAM, to mine cryptocurrencies such as Monero or Zcash. It gains persistence by registering one of the open-source miners to run at startup without the user's consent. The more advanced miners stay under the radar by scheduling activity with timers or throttling their CPU consumption.
