CargoBay is a Windows malware family.
Background
CargoBay is a relatively recent family first seen in 2022, distinguished by being written in Rust. Its code is thought to draw on the 'Black Hat Rust' GitHub project (https://github.com/skerkour/black-hat-rust). The malware typically spreads through phishing emails, with binaries masquerading as legitimate applications. On launch it runs environment checks, inspecting its execution path and the system's configured language; if those checks pass, it collects basic system information and registers with its HTTP-based C2, from which it pulls JSON-formatted jobs. CargoBay is able to run command-line commands and fetch additional malware binaries.
