Background
According to Bleeping Computer, AVCrypt was identified as malware that attempts to remove any installed security products before proceeding to encrypt the machine. Because it also tears down a range of services such as Windows Update and offers victims no way to make contact, researchers suspect this so-called ransomware may actually function as a wiper.
